Witacze, tak w Polsce określa się konstrukcje ustawione przy wjazdach do
miast i miejscowości. Służą one powitaniu wjeżdżających gości, zachęceniu
do odwiedzenia miasta, poinformowaniu mieszkańców o rychłym powrocie
do domu. Jadąc przez Polskę można napotkać tego typu obiekty. Często przybierają
one formę abstrakcyjnych rzeźb, instalacji. Wiele z nich niszczeje, stare, zapomniane
dawno przestały pełnić swoją funkcję ozdobnej miejskiej bramy. Abstrakcyjne kompozycje ustępują miejsca "informacyjnym" tablicom.
Alicja Karska i Aleksandra Went już od kilku lat podróżując po Polsce fotografują
witacze, w typowy dla siebie sposób skupiając się na zapomnianych fragmentach rzeczywistości. Artystki z konsekwencją archiwisty tworzą katalog ich przemijającego piękna.
Witacz, a word used in Poland for constructions set up at entrances to cities
and towns. They serve to greet entering visitors, encourage them to visit the
city, inform residents about the imminent return home. Travelling in Poland you
may encounter lot of such objects. They often take the form of abstract
sculptures and installations. Many of them are decaying; old, forgotten long
ago ceased to fulfll their function of the ornate city gate. Abstract composi
tions give way to "information" boards.
For several years now Alicja Karska and Aleksandra Went have been taking
pictures of witacze while travelling around Poland, in their typical way focusing
on the forgotten fragments of reality. The artists with the consequence of an
archivist create the catalogue of their passing beauty.
